Our Story
47 Restaurant opened in Wigston, Leicester in 2025, bringing authentic Pakistani cooking to Leicester Road. We were founded on a simple idea: that the food of Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar — the charcoal grills, the slow-cooked karahi, the fragrant biryani — deserves a home in this city that does it justice.
Our name is our address. Our kitchen is led by Chef Shabaz, who trained in Karachi and brings the techniques of Pakistan's greatest food city to every dish we serve.

Rooted in Karachi, elevated in Leicester. We cook the way it has always been done — charcoal grills, cast-iron karahi, spices balanced by hand — and we present it in a setting that reflects the care that goes into every plate.

The kitchen behind the food
Chef Shabaz leads our kitchen. He trained in Karachi — Pakistan's largest city and the place where the karahi as a cooking style was refined into what it is today: cast-iron, high heat, tomato, ginger, garlic, and black pepper, finished at the table.
That training shapes everything on our menu. The charcoal grill technique, the spice balance in the karahi, the layering in the biryani — these are not approximations of Pakistani food. They are the real thing, brought to Wigston.

We opened in Wigston in 2025 to serve the Pakistani and South Asian community of Leicester — and anyone who wants to eat the way families in Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar have eaten for generations.

Our meat is sourced from a butcher certified by the Halal Monitoring Committee — HMC. If you are not familiar with HMC, it is worth knowing: it operates one of the most rigorous halal certification programmes in the United Kingdom, with on-site monitoring throughout the supply chain rather than periodic audits alone.
For many of our guests — particularly families who are careful about where their halal certification comes from — HMC certification is the standard they look for. We chose our supplier specifically because of it.

We opened on Leicester Road, Wigston in 2025 because this community deserved a Pakistani restaurant that took the food seriously. Not a takeaway. Not a compromise. A dining room where you can bring your family for Eid, book the function room for a birthday, or sit down on a Friday evening with a karahi and take your time.
From halwa puri at the weekend to charsi karahi in the evening, we honour the rituals that bring people together. The Pakistani and South Asian community of Leicester has fed and shaped this city for decades. 47 is our way of giving something back to that table.
